APL’s APL Aloha arrives in Honolulu Harbor assisted by Foss Maritime tugs Mikioi and Freedom. 12 August 2017.
Today’s arrival of the feeder container ship, APL Aloha, marks the start of APL’s Aloha Express service. This new shipping route connects Hawai‘i with the ports of Shanghai, China; Busan, South Korea; and Yokohama, Japan.
APL is a subsidiary of French shipping and transportation company CMA CGM.
The captain told me their next ports are Kodiak and Dutch Harbor in Alaska! It is a 42 day round trip with 3 ships, so one will call Honolulu every other weekend.
Interesting that the ship is also calling at Alaskan ports. I imagine this will impact NYK’s business?
