TOTE announced that it plans to establish container shipping service between Hawai‘i and the Mainland.

Construction of TOTE’s initial order of two vessels is already underway at Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company is also looking to establish facilities at the new Kapalama Container Terminal in Honolulu.

TOTE expects the Hawai‘i service to commence in 2020. Its current competitors in the market are Matson and Pasha Hawaii.

TOTE is a unit of Saltchuk, which already has links to Hawai‘i via ownership of the following companies: Aloha Air Cargo, Aloha Tech Ops, Foss Maritime, Hawaii Petroleum, Minit Stop, Ohana Fuels, and Young Brothers.
