Maritime VR Experiment

Maritime Hawai‘i recently downloaded Google’s Cardboard Camera app, which is available for iOS and Android. With this app, one can use one’s smart phone to capture virtual reality (VR) photos that are viewable using Google’s Cardboard app and viewer (a shoutout to M. Wilson for the basic information about how it all works).

Here is the first (so-so) attempt:

HPA Ahua Point sm

View from pilot boat Ahua Point at Pier 19. A sample Cardboard Camera VR photo.

You can download the high res file here: Ahua Point VR Photo.

Would you like to see more VR views from the waterfront and beyond? Let us know what you think.

Mahalo to Captain Tom Heberle of the Hawaii Pilots Association for the permission to use this photo.
