The land is being cleared in preparation for the construction of the Kapālama Container Terminal. According to the DOT Harbors website, this project is scheduled to be completed in four years (2022) at a cost of $448 million. It is part of a larger Harbors Modernization Plan.

Pasha Hawaii is expected to move its operations from Piers 1, 2, and 51A to the new terminal.
