USCGC Walnut* is a Juniper-class seagoing buoy tender. Launched in 1998, her primary mission is to service aids to navigation throughout the waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands and American Sāmoa.

She also participates in the US Coast Guard’s other major missions:

  • Maritime Safety (search and rescue, boating safety)
  • Maritime Security (maritime law and treaty enforcement)
  • National Defense (general national security issues)
  • Natural Resource Protection (marine pollution prevention and response)

*The Coast Guard follows a tradition of naming seagoing buoy tenders after flowers, shrubs, or trees.
