Matson Gantry Crane Disposal

The delivery of three new gantry cranes in April 2019 allowed Matson to dispose of some of the older ones located on Sand Island.

O’Brien Specialist Crane Services brought down one crane at 2300 on 18 December 2019 using a method called controlled collapse.

Workers used cutting torches to weaken key parts of the crane’s structure. Once that was done, the crane was pulled down using cables attached to its frame.

I noticed they painted the crane on the Diamond Head side white, are they going to keep the other 2 older ones?

I noticed the new paint as well. I believe that they are keeping the other two cranes.
