In terms of getting a job, it depends on what you are interested in and what sort of skills you have.
A number of mariners post videos on YouTube and are active on social media. If you start following them, you can get an idea of what their work is like and maybe contact them directly with questions you may have.
My experience is with (historic) sailing ships. I can possibly point you in the right direction if you are interested in that.
