Falkor is a research vessel owned and operated by the Schmidt Ocean Institute, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2009 by Eric and Wendy Schmidt.
The vessel’s name may be familiar to fantasy fans. It is the name of a character in the book The Neverending Story (original German title: Die unendliche Geschichte) by Michael Ende, which was made into a series of movies.
