Day of the Seafarer 2022

Day of the Seafarer June 25

Today (25 June) is designated as the Day of the Seafarer. It is an official United Nations international observance day that was established in 2010 in order to “recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.”

This year’s theme is: Your Voyage—Then and Now, Share Your Journey

Seafarers have unique stories to tell due to the nature of their jobs while sailing on board various types of vessels in different parts of the world. The International Maritime Organization website notes that this year’s campaign gives them “a chance to share what resonates with them currently” based on their experiences and the challenges they face on a daily basis.

Mariners can share their stories and images via social media by using the hashtag #SeafarerJourney

Organizations and the general public are also encouraged to participate.
