The MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Convention was adopted on 2 November 1973. It covers regulations that help to prevent and reduce routine and accidental pollution from ships.

Mariners can share their stories and images of the marine environment and anything related to the actions being taken to protect it. This can be done via social media and using the hashtag #OceansWorthProtecting

Organizations and the general public are also encouraged to participate.
