Semisub One in the News Again

Semisub One was in the news again in August 2025.

The vessel was a prototype developed by Semisub, Inc., a company headed by Curtiss E. Jackson (Chief Executive Officer) and his, now, ex-wife Jamey Denise Jackson (President).

The couple was charged in 2022 with operating a scheme to defraud investors out of millions of dollars. Money that was raised for the development and construction of Semisub vessels was instead used by the couple to cover their personal expenses, which included car and house payments, clothing, salon visits, groceries, psychics, and drugs.1SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION vs. SEMISUB, INC., CURTISS EDWARD JACKSON, and JAMEY DENISE JACKSON (Filed 3 August 2022), United States Securities and Exchange Commission, accessed 19 September 2025, at https://www.sec.gov/files/litigation/complaints/2022/comp25462.pdf

Mr. Jackson was arrested on 24 December 2022 and then released pending a trial date. In early January 2023, he attempted to flee from authorities in Semisub One with cash and various supplies. He was declared a fugitive. The vessel was eventually located at sea off Barbers Point. The United States Marshals Service and the United States Coast Guard boarded the vessel and arrested Mr. Jackson.2“U.S. Marshals Arrest Fugitive Fleeing by Boat,” United States Marshals Service, accessed 19 September 2025, at https://www.usmarshals.gov/news/press-release/us-marshals-arrest-fugitive-fleeing-boat-0

On 5 August 2025, Mr. Jackson was sentenced to 13 years in prison and Ms. Jackson was sentenced to two years in prison.3“CEO of Hawaii Shipbuilding Company Sentenced to 13 Years for $29M Investment Fraud Scheme, President Received Two Year Sentence,” Office of Public Affairs, United States Department of Justice, accessed 19 September 2025, at https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/ceo-hawaii-shipbuilding-company-sentenced-13-years-29m-investment-fraud-scheme-president

It is unclear what will happen to Semisub One. At the moment, she is tied up at Pier D in Kewalo Basin and rebranded with OceanView Adventure livery. The company’s website lists the following cruises: Waikīkī Sunset, Friday Fireworks, and Whale Watching. However, it appears that cruises are no longer being scheduled. It also states that the vessel is available for private charter.

Thank you for the update. On PSIX, the Coast Guard site containing public vessel information, her name is still SEMISUB ONE, and I see that still in teensy letters in your photo. It shows her documents were renewed in April after being expired for two years.
