Hilo Harbor
In September 2025, Maritime Hawai‘i made a short trip to the Island of Hawai‘i (Big Island) to check out Hilo Harbor.

View of part of the Hilo breakwater. It reduces wave action, which means calmer conditions for ships and boats in the harbor. Mauna Kea is in the distance. 24 September 2025.

Pier 1 (left) and Pier 2. Cruise ships and Pasha Hawaii’s vehicles carrier Jean Anne tie up at Pier 1. 24 September 2025.

P&M Marine Services tug Tiger 10 tied up at the end of Pier 2 and, behind her, Sause Bros. tug Joseph Sause at the end of Pier 3. 24 September 2025.

Young Brothers tug Moana at Pier 2 with Sause Bros. barge Hilo Bay (Pier 3) and Young Brothers barge Kaholo (Pier 4) in the background. 24 September 2025.
Note: The Hilo breakwater is accessible to the general public. However, please check weather and sea conditions before going there. Most of the breakwater is composed of boulders, which means that walking on it can be a challenge. Sturdy footwear with a good grip is a good idea.

Great shots as always, but thanks for this special view of Hilo Bay.
Mahalo!
Beautiful current photos of Hilo Harbor and the Tugs.
It has been awhile since I have been there.
