Arrival 1958
View from the deck of a Matson passenger liner as it approaches Piers 10 and 11 for a morning arrival at Honolulu Harbor in April 1958. Downtown Honolulu is still free of any highrise buildings so Aloha Tower remains the tallest structure there. In the center of this image on the dock is a small stage with a backdrop, on which a Hawaiian group will be providing music while hula dancers perform for the incoming passengers. Just to the right of the man at the railing are coin divers swimming in the harbor, some of whom are already waving to attract attention for money to be thrown to them. (DeSoto Brown Collection)
Mahalo to DeSoto Brown for the image and caption.
