100 Years Ago – Aliens on Falls of Clyde

FOUR ALIEN ENEMIES FOUND ON OIL TANKER IN ISLAND SERVICE

Four alien enemies were found on the Associated Oil tanker, Falls of Clyde, as she lay off quarantine at San Francisco last week. One of the Germans taken off had been on the ship since the war started, and the other three had made a round trip to Hawaii on the ship. Immigration officers discovered the alien enemies and placed them under arrest.

The Falls of Clyde, which runs between San Francisco and Honolulu, carries oil to the islands and takes back molasses. Being technically in the coastwise trade the Angel island officers should have inspected the ship but this was apparently not done. Possibly the Germans might never have been discovered, but this trip the ship arrived at San Francisco in ballast and anchored off quarantine.
