Cap Philippe Arrival

There were some tense moments as the Suezmax tanker Cap Philippe was making her way inbound to Honolulu Harbor.

Cap Philippe was nearing the mouth of the harbor when a sailboat approached the channel from the Diamond Head side.

At this point, a prudent sailor would have altered course and waited until the ship had passed before proceeding on. Despite loud and clear warning signals from the ship, the sailboat continued leisurely across the channel.

Needless to say, Captain Ed Enos, who was the harbor pilot on board Cap Philippe, was not pleased:

The sailboat and the people on board made it safely across to the other side of the channel. Had something gone wrong, this would be a much different post.

It is always amazing to see large tankers up close. At just under 899 ft (274 m) in length, Cap Philippe is impressive. She was assisted by three Foss Maritime tugs: Freedom, Mikioi, and Pi‘ilani.
