As one of Matson’s famous “White Ships,” SS Matsonia transported passengers between California and Hawai‘i.

Launched in 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as Malolo (Hawaiian for flying fish), she was renamed Matsonia in 1937 after an extensive redesign of the ship was completed.

The ship served as a troop transport during World War II. After the war, she resumed passenger service to and from Hawai‘i until she was sold in 1948.
