Day of the Seafarer 2021

Day of the Seafarer June 25

Today (25 June) is designated as the Day of the Seafarer. It is an official United Nations international observance day that was established in 2010 in order to “recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.”

This year’s theme is: A Fair Future for Seafarers

During the COVID-19 pandemic, mariners continued to do their jobs despite facing a multitude of hardships, including not being able to leave their ships to return home after months at sea. It is important that their sacrifices be recognized and that actions are taken by governments, organizations, and companies to ensure that they receive fair treatment now and in the future.

To show your support of mariners via social media, use the hashtag #FairFuture4Seafarers
