The Hamilton-class USCGC Morgenthau was decommissioned at US Coast Guard Base Honolulu on 18 April 2017. The ship was transferred to the Vietnam Coast Guard (Cảnh sát biển Việt Nam) during a ceremony held on 25 May 2017.

Morgenthau was built at Avondale Shipyards in Louisiana and commissioned on 10 March 1969. She was named after Henry Morgenthau Jr. (1891–1967), who was the US Secretary of the Treasury from January 1934 to July 1945.
